Program designed to: Trace the footsteps of Florence Nightingale, mother of modern nursing, through Victorian London and learn how a fine balance of compassion and innovation fueled the evolution of Britain’s healthcare system. Gain insight from local registered nurses and health professionals about their specialized practices and training, while enjoying the cultural highlights of Britain’s cosmopolitan capital city.

Highlight: Make a free-time visit to the Royal College of Nursing Library & Heritage Center, chronicling 200 years of nursing in London with its multimedia collection of first-hand stories.

    Meet your Tour Director at the airport

    Take a walking tour of London

    With your Tour Director you will see:

    • The Strand, London's major thoroughfare
    • Trafalgar Square, a bustling central square
    • Leicester Square, a square lined with theaters and other events
    • Covent Garden, a vibrant and charming shopping area

    Enjoy a roast dinner in London

  • Day 3: London

    Take a guided tour of London

    With your expert local guide you will see: 

    • Big Ben, an iconic London bell at the Palace of Westminster
    • Houses of Parliament, home to England's governing body
    • Piccadilly Circus, a five-way intersection 
    • St. Paul’s Cathedral, a domed church which has hosted many royal events
    • Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace (if scheduled)

    Introductory talk at the Florence Nightingale Museum

    Visit the Florence Nightingale Museum, honoring the woman credited with founding modern nursing

    During your guided tour, you will:

    • Explore the nursing school she founded and learn about the legend of the Lady with the Lamp
    • See the writing slate Florence Nightingale used as a child as well as her medicine chest and other historical keepsakes
    • Finish your tour with an informative lecture where you can learn more about Florence and her lasting impact on modern nursing
  • Day 4: London

    Take a walking lecture about the history of London's Healthcare system where you will:

    • Visit the Royal College of Physicians, a governing body of the British medical profession since 1518
    • Walk through London’s medical district, taking in renowned institutions including University College Hospital, the General Medical Council, and the now-defunct London Foot Hospital

    Visit the Wellcome Collection, a museum dedicated to medical artifacts and original artworks exploring “ideas about the connections between medicine, life, and art” 

  • Day 5: London

    Visit an old operating theater, which got their start as a way for medical students to learn and observe techniques during the early history of medicine in Englan

    Industry Engagement: Take part in an informative Q&A session with a local registered nurse who can share insights into Britain’s healthcare system

  • Day 6: London

    Spend time exploring London on your own

    Enjoy a fish and chips dinner in London

  • Day 7: Depart for home

    Visit Surgeon's Hall Museum, which includes bone and tissue specimens, medicinal artifacts, and one of the largest and most historic collections of surgical pathology in the world

    Tour Edinburgh and learn about the city’s medical community with an expert local guide

    • Explore Scotland’s medical history at the Royal College of Surgeons, the oldest and largest of the UK surgical Royal Colleges
    • Learn about modern medical innovations like bionic limbs and Dolly the Sheep
